The practical lesson: keep accas short (two or three legs), and only combine selections where you have a demonstrable individual edge. Three strong opinions combined into a treble can be a legitimate strategy. Five lukewarm leans combined into a five-fold is a donation to the bookmaker.

I also look for legs where the correlation works in my favour without being priced in. Two teams from the same conference playing on the same night, where both are heavy home favourites against weak road opponents – those outcomes are not correlated in the bookmaker’s model (they are separate games), but the situational factors overlap enough that both legs winning is more probable than the independent calculation suggests.
